Obituary

Aberdeen – Alma Ilene Payne Chamberlain, 78, of Aberdeen, Ohio passed away Sunday, October 14, 2018 at UC Medical Center. Mrs. Chamberlain was the widow of Kenneth Chamberlain who died in 2011. The couple were married for fifty-one years at the time Mr. Chamberlain passed.  A lifelong resident of Aberdeen, Ilene was born on October 16, 1939, the daughter of the late John R. Payne and Cora Davis Payne.  For the last eight years, Ilene has served her community as a Trustee for Huntington Township. She always loved doing things for her family and her community. In the 1960's and 1970's, she took care of the Aberdeen baseball and softball fields. She always made sure the concession stand was fully stocked every night and weekend because she always made sure there was a nightly game or a weekend tournament. In her later years, her beloved husband was a Huntington Township Trustee and after his passing, she became a Trustee and was always looking out for the town of Aberdeen and the Huntington Township.  She was dedicated to the Charter Oak Cemetery and spent countless hours weekly with loved ones in mourning and always made sure the cemetery looked beautiful. Even less than an hour before she had a massive stroke, she was working at the cemetery. Ilene is survived by her loving children, John (Elizabeth) Chamberlain of Maysville, KY and Tonya (Greg) Slone of Alexandria, KY. She also leaves seven grandchildren, who dearly loved their Maw, Craig (Rachael) Chamberlain of Lexington, KY, Cora Chamberlain of Independence, KY, Kensey (Reed) Dressler of Springfield, MO, Mica Slone, Christian Slone, Noah Slone and Noel Slone all of Alexandria, KY. Ilene was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her first great grandchild. Survivors also include her sister, Mary Edith Griffith of Georgetown, OH, one sister-in-law, Lelia Payne, a special nephew, Steve Payne and also several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe Payne and Roland Payne and her sisters, Ellen Payne, Dorothy Reash, Mildred Beshea and Thelma Payne. Funeral services for Ilene Chamberlain will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home at 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 20, 2018 with Elder Greg Slone officiating.
