Betty Joan
Muehlbauer
Nov 28, 1932 — Aug 16, 2024
Maysville
We honor and remember Joan Muehlbauer, our everyday hero, who managed in countless
ways to leave this world a little better for having been here. Betty Joan Muehlbauer, 91, of
Maysville, Kentucky earned her wings and joined the angels on Friday, August 16, 2024 at the
Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility and touched the hearts of all who knew her with
her unwavering spirit and kindness. She was the widow of Paul Alan Muehlbauer who passed
away in 2017. Joan was a registered nurse and retired from Meadowview Regional Medical
Center, where she utilized her remarkable work ethic as an OR Charge Nurse, and later from
the Buffalo Trace District Health Department. She was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic
Church, the Maysville Younger Women's Club, and was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel. She
was born in May's Lick, Kentucky on November 28, 1932 the daughter of the late Richard, E.
and Geneva Osborne Huber. When Mom took off for that family reunion in Heaven, she left
behind her two children, Lisa Griffith (Steve) of Bear, DE, and Paul Muehlbauer (Jane) of
Maysville, KY; three grandchildren, Lauren Griffith, Julia Muehlbauer and Paul Andrew
Muehlbauer; four siblings, Judy Vance (Bob), Rick Huber and Dick Huber (Donna) all of
Maysville, KY and Declan Huber (Molly) of Bradenton, FL and her sister-in-law, Judy Huber of
Owingsville, KY.
Besides her husband and her parents, already waiting for her in Heaven are two
grandchildren, Matthew Paul Griffith and Luke Anthony Muehlbauer and three siblings, Charles
"Chick" Huber, Sue Case and Carolyn Gay Kleier and two brother-in-laws, Eddie Kleier
and Ferdie Case.
Mom had a knack for blending practical advice with a touch of humor, often imparting her
wisdom in the form of many sayings instead of daunting us with long lectures. Mom had a
unique way of getting through to us with just a few meaningful words. Each time we're reminded
of her sayings, we'll remember her warmth and wisdom, and how her advice was always given
with our best interests at heart.
Mom loved to remind us that "cleanliness is next to godliness," especially when it was time to
tidy up our rooms or take a shower and put on fresh clothes. Her gentle nudges made even the
most mundane tasks feel like valuable lessons.
Mom had a remarkable talent for cooking up large amounts of delicious food and feeding lots of
family and friends as often as they would come by. Everyone knew a gathering with our family
was going to be a grand time. Mom loved when everyone was gathered together. As the
gathering drew to a close, you'd hear her say with a smile, "Shine your shoes and say your
prayers". This was an adage handed down from her mother, as their way of reminding us to
work hard and keep our close relationship with God.
Life's challenges never seemed to dampen Mom's spirit. Her reassurance of, "there must be
something better in store," was her way of staying positive and hopeful. This mindset definitely
showed in Mom as she was never one to complain and always staying solution focused. She
was a beacon of optimism, always encouraging those around her to keep a bright outlook, no
matter the circumstances.
We've all certainly heard Mom say "God helps those who help themselves", reminding us that
God's grace and support are often given to those who actively strive to improve their own lives
and the lives of others. Mom truly led by example as she was so patient, kind, and always
lending a helping hand while thinking of others before herself. In these ways she also embodied
her adage "pretty is as pretty does". Her actions spoke louder than words, revealing a beauty
that came from within. Her selfless nature and kind deeds made her a shining example of inner
goodness.
As we mourn her passing, we also celebrate the wonderful legacy Mom leaves behind. Her life
was a joyous blend of love, laughter, and unwavering faith. Mom was truly one of a kind, and
her impact will be remembered and cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
We thank Mom for loving us unconditionally, bringing so much joy and happiness into our lives,
and giving us traditions to carry on. We will forever hold you close in our hearts.
