Maysville- Betty M. Purdon, 93, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, peacefully at her home.
She was born on July 22, 1932, in Washington, Kentucky and was married to the late Thomas H. Purdon for 42 years. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Ida Lee Maley Maher.
In 1950, she graduated from St. Patrick School. Betty received her nursing diploma from the Nazareth School of Nursing in Lexington, KY in 1953. She began her nursing career at Hayswood Hospital and later worked at Maysville Nursing Home, Georgetown Hospital, and Comprehend until retiring in 1994. On June 7, 2025, Betty received the prestigious Kentucky Colonel Commission, the highest honor bestowed in the name of the Commonwealth while being honored at her 75th class reunion from high school. Betty was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Church.
Betty loved her family dearly and had a special affinity for St. Patrick Church and the town of Maysville. She touched many lives in the community and was loved by all who knew her.
Mrs. Purdon was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Purdon, who died on November 11, 1996, her sister Eleanor Maher Hines, her brothers Frank, Patrick, and Dick Maher, and a daughter-in-law, Kris Hines.
Survivors include her six children, Pam Brant (Mark) of Maysville, KY; Tim Purdon (Renee) of Union, KY; Jimmy Purdon (Mary) of Augusta, KY; Joe Purdon (Sandy) of Hendersonville, TN; Lee Ellen Coates (Jim) of Apex, NC; James Hines of Pompano Beach, FL.
Betty was the Mamaw and Grandma to fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great- grandchildren. Her oldest granddaughter, Angie Brant (Chuck Hamilton) and her great-grandson Andrew Brant (Josie Reardon) shared a special relationship with her. Angie lived with her grandmother while raising her son and cared for her until her last days.
Additional surviving grandchildren are Craig (Justine) Brant, Katie (Josh) Ashworth, Emily (Brad) Ruehl, Kyle (Kassie) Brant; Stephen (Danielle) and Jon Michael Purdon, Colin O'Brien; Thomas (Lara), Garrett (Hannah Welte), and Makenzie Purdon; Jennifer (Troy) Turnbow; Ian and Max Coates; and Brad Hines. Her great-grandchildren are Nathan and Natalie Brant, Brantley and Braxton Ashworth, Lucas and Owen Ruehl, Kinleigh Towner, Darin, Stephen and Marissa Purdon, James Purdon, and Kyla Turnbow. She leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Martha Henderson and Mary Hannah Marshall, as well as nieces and nephews. Betty's beloved dog Cooper also survives her.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Church with Father Augustine Aidoo as the Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour before the mass at 10 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Patrick Church maintenance fund or for masses to be said in Betty's name.
