Maysville – Bonnie Lee Tully Whalen, 95, of Maysville, Kentucky passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. She was born in Mason County, Kentucky on February 2, 1928 the daughter of the late Perry Preston Tully and Mabel Holliday Tully. Bonnie married the love of her life, the late William Clinton "Dick" Whalen on July 19, 1952. The couple were married for fifty-three years at his passing on August 21, 2005.
Bonnie was a 1947 graduate of Maysville High School and retired from Browning Manufacturing Company after thirty-one years of service. She was a long devoted member of the First Christian Church in Maysville, where she served as President of the Women's Fellowship, the Worthington Sunday School Class, the finance committee, Caring Friends and chairman of the dining room for the Annual Church Bazaar for many years.
Bonnie was a Deaconess Emeritus, past member of the Maysville Homemakers, a member of the Gateway Museum, a commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1978 by Governor Julian Carroll. She loved to travel, going antiquing, attending to her flower garden, an avid reader and dedicated advocate for the food bank. She will be remembered for her compassion, especially for children and animals. Bonnie was a lady of style and dignity and always was kind to everyone.
She is survived by her niece, Theresa Gail Tully Hunt (Danny) of Ewing, KY; nephews, Rodger Frederick Tully, The Villas, FL and Steven Edward Tully (Janice) of Danville, KY, Timothy Quinn Tully (Hannalore) of Dillenburg, Germany; niece-in-laws, Mima Tully and Nancy Hogerty Tully and several great nieces and great nephews and her special friend, Linda Dearinger (Steve) of Maysville, KY.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Preston Howard Tully and Rudolph "Bud" Tully and her nephew, Donald Lee Tully and great nephew, Steven Todd Tully.
Funeral services for Bonnie Whalen will be held at the First Christian Church at 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 5, 2023 with Rev. Jeffrey Sames officiating. Burial will follow in the Maysville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Derrick Kirk, Tommy Woosley, Skip Miller, Todd White, Rodger T. Tully and Jack Bare. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith White, Gerald Orme and Bill Dearing. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service.
