Carl D. "Daddy Carl" Gaskins, 98, of Maysville passed away Thursday April 18, 2019 at Bridgepoint Medical Care Center, Portsmouth, OH. He was born March 31, 1921 in Tilton (Fleming County) to the late Ernest and Mary Elizabeth Sanders Gaskins McKee.
Mr. Gaskins served in the U.S. Army from 1939-1945. His tour of duty spanned both World War II and the Korean War and his service locations were in Virginia, Rhineland, France, Germany, Panama, New Guinea, and the Philippines. His oral history review/interview is recorded in the Veterans History Project which can be located in the Library of Congress.
Carl was married to the late Mary L. Nelson Gaskins. He was employed at Chrysler Motors in Detroit and later retired from Ace Dry Cleaners before returning to Kentucky to work for Doctors Wilson and Doty for many years.
He was a longtime member of Scott United Methodist Church, where he faithfully attended Sunday school, Bible Study, and served as an appointed trustee.
Daddy Carl leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Irene Gaskins Harvey of Drummonds, TN, Rose (Bobby) Nelson of Maysville and one son, Desi (Emery) Gaskins, of Shelby Township, MI; as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his parents and wife, Carl Gaskins was proceeded in death by two sisters Wynetta Gaskins Strode, Elizabeth Gaskins and three brothers; James McKee, Stockwell McKee, Jr., and George McKee.
Visitation will be held at the Scott United Methodist Church on Monday, April 22, 2019 from 5 to 7 PM with the funeral service beginning at 7 PM.
Burial will be held at the Green Acres Cemetery, Washington, KY at 11 AM Tuesday, April 23, 2019 with military rites performed by the Simon Kenton VFW Post 2734.
