Catherine C. "Kitty" Comer Hutchings, 87, passed away on January 28, 2020 after a brief illness.

She was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 20, 1933, the daughter of the late Francis M. Comer and Helen Vaughan Beeson Comer.

Kitty was a 1950 graduate of Saint Patrick High School. She attained her degree in Arts and Science from the University of Kentucky in 1954. While attending college in Lexington she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

During her career she was one of the earliest staff member of Maysville Community College. Kitty's interest in education led her to become a teacher at Saint Patrick High School. She taught American History, World history, American Literature, English Literature and Journalism and was humbled to have many of her former students say that she was "the best teacher they ever had".

After teaching she became the Director of the Maysville-Mason County Public Library where Kitty continued to enjoy helping others learn. She particularly enjoyed story hour with the children that attended the programs.

Active in the Maysville and Mason County community was a past member of the Board of the Maysville Community college and the Limestone Family YMCA. She also served on the boards on a statewide basis as a member of the State Historic Properties Board and the State Library Board.

Involved in local Democratic Party politics, she served as Chairperson of the Mason County Democratic party under Governor Martha Layne Collins. Her involvement in politics led her to be a delegate for Jimmy Carter at the Democratic National Convention in New York City in 1976 and to be a delegate for Walter "Fritz" Mondale in San Francisco 1984.

Kitty was a life-long member of the Saint Patrick Church. At the time of her passing she was a member of The Washington Study Club.

Kitty is survived her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine H. Lindner and Dr. John E. Lindner, Sr. of Louisville, Helen Adelaide Lindner, her granddaughter, John E. "Jack" Lindner, Jr., her grandson and John R. Hutchings, IV, her son, of May's Lick as well as a number of cousins and friends in Maysville and across the country.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Michael.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Patrick Church at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 31, 2020 with Rev. Michael Comer as the celebrant. Burial will follow in the Saint Patrick Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Charles T. Wethington, Judge Stockton B. Wood, William H. Moss, Joseph B. Brannen, Phil Kearney, John B. Van Meter and Kenny Ross. Honorary Pallbearers will be the District Governors and Past District Governors of Zones 30 and 31 of Rotary International in attendance.

Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the mass.
