Obituary

Clyde Ingram Hughes, 98, went home to be with the Lord January 18, 2019. He was born in Nicholas County, Kentucky on April 14, 1920 to the late Jesse James Hughes and Allie Ingram Hughes. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Alcie, their daughter Patricia, and his 11 siblings. Clyde and Alcie were married June 26, 1947 in Mt. Olivet, KY and were married for 64 years.

Mr. Hughes proudly served in the Army in the western European Theater during World War II and later served in the Army Reserve. He was awarded three bronze stars and was active during the Battle of the Bulge.  After WW II, he worked at Frigidaire in Dayton, Ohio, East End Construction in Maysville, and retired from Browning Manufacturing in 1984 where he had worked for 34 years. Additionally, he served 10 years on the Washington Town Council.

After retirement, Clyde and Alcie started an antique and refinishing business. They enjoyed going to antique auctions where they often retrieved "junk" that Clyde later transformed into beautiful treasures that family, friends, and customers continue to admire. He combined creativity, problem-solving, and extensive knowledge to restore antiques and fashion reproductions.

Clyde expressed his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through active membership and service at Central United Methodist Church. Over 60 years of faithful attendance and service at Central United Methodist Church included 50 plus years as a trustee. In addition, he served as a board member and on various committees throughout the years. Clyde used his construction and wood-working talents donating many hours to the local church he loved.

His family rejoices in the long and prosperous life with which God blessed Clyde and the fact he is now with Jesus and reunited with Alcie and Patricia. However, he will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him. He was especially adored by his three great, great nieces Mary, Anna, and Elizabeth Wise. Clyde's and Alcie's home was also home to Tom, Gail, Marshall and Christy Wise who cherish the memories of being there. Clyde was like a father to Tom and Gail, a grandfather to Marshall and Christy, and a great grandfather to Mary, Anna, and Elizabeth.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the Central United Methodist Church with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the funeral service being held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Mark Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Baptist Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tom Stratton, Allen Price, Jackie Allison, Jerry McCane, Wesley Wilcox, Robert Roe and David Hughes.  Memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church, 912 East Second Street, Maysville, KY 41056. The arrangements are entrusted to the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home. Condolences at knoxbrothersfuneralhome.com
