Obituary

Dewey Douglas Applegate, 79, of Maysville, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at his residence. Mr. Applegate was formerly associated with Comprehend Incorporated, the Buffalo Trace District Health Department, the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center and later retired as the CFO of the Adams County Regional Medical Center. He was a 1965 graduate of Mason County High School and a graduate of Morehead State University. Dewey was a member of the New Hope Christian Church and attended Better Life Church in Morehead. He was a member of the IOOF Ringgold Lodge #27 where he served as secretary and the IOOF DeKalb Lodge #12 and was a past member of the Mason County School Board of Education.

He was born in Maysville, Kentucky on July 12, 1947, and was the son of the late Mattie Reed (Harry) Morrison and Douglas Applegate.

Dewey is survived by his wife of forty-three years, Janice Towler Applegate; sons, Jeffrey Douglas Frazier and wife, Amanda of Maysville, KY, Michael Andrew "Andy" Frazier of St. Johns, FL and Matthew Wyatt Applegate and wife Holly of Danville, KY; nine grandchildren, all of them he loved dearly, Andrew Frazier, Mollie Frazier, Madison Hood, Kaitlyn Hood, Jacob Frazier, Rusty Sexton, Kyler Applegate, Laney Mae Applegate, Matthew Bryant Applegate and Tyson Applegate.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sharon Steo (Bill) and brother-in-law, Robert Douglas Towler, Jr. (Debbie) and special cousins, Joe Moran (Melissa) and Glenda Dunn.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his father and mother-in laws, Robert Douglas Towler and Verdeana Gifford Towler and his special cousin, Linda Florence.

A memorial service will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Tuesday, September 8, 2026 with Brother Kirk Rolph officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service.

Internment of the cremains will be held privately at the Maysville Cemetery.
