Edward M. Mefford, age 71, of Maysville, Kentucky and a native of the Orangeburg community, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 surrounded by the love of those who cared deeply for him. Born on February 8, 1954, in Maysville, Kentucky, Edward was the son of the late Forest Audie Mefford and Helen Lunsford Mefford, and was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Richard William "Ricky" Mefford, Sr.

Edward was a simple, hardworking man who found purpose in honest work and meaningful relationships. He spent many years working at Applegate's Furniture and also doing farm work—never afraid of hard labor and always willing to lend a helping hand. Those who knew Edward knew they could count on him.

Faith played an important role in Edward's life. He was a devoted member of Tollesboro Christian Church, Orangeburg Christian Church and Maysville SDA truly loved the Lord. His faith guided how he lived—quietly, humbly, and with kindness toward others.

Edward cherished his family and the close bonds he shared with them. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Flora Applegate Mefford; nephews Richard "Ricky" Mefford, Jr. (Elisha) of Ashland, Kentucky, and Jeff Applegate (Sabrina Farrah) of Maysville, Kentucky; four great-nephews, Landon Mefford, Brandon Mefford, Lea Elliott, and Robert Applegate; and two great-niece and nephew, Jensen Allen Elliott and Addison Ray Elliott. He also leaves behind his close friends, Venessa Sharp and Debbie Applegate and many friends who loved him dearly and will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Eddie will be remembered for his loyalty to family, dedication to hard work, and the many friendships he held close throughout his life. His warmth, reliability, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Funeral services for Eddie Mefford will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Monday, January 19, 2026 with Harold Ashcraft officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosemont Cemetery in Dover, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be Ricky Mefford, Jr., Landon Mefford, Brandon Mefford, Jeff Applegate, Doug Applegate, Kevin Applegate and Darrell Hunt. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family of Edward Mefford.
