But Irene's most important career was being a mother and care-giver to several family members. She spent much of her retirement years enjoying her favorite hobbies of sewing, crocheting and quilting.
She is survived by her sons, Michael (Vieda) Stitt of Maysville and Marion (Teresa) Stitt of Minerva, and her only grandchild Andrew Burk Stitt of Maysville. She is also survived by one brother, James Cook "J.C." Douglas.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by eight of her brothers and sisters: Kate Barbee, Louise Case, Ollie Frances (Dink) Strode, Myrtle Carpenter, Henry Douglas, Austin Douglas, Nina Faye (Tootsie) Griffith and Shirley Douglas.
Services for Elizabeth Irene Stitt will be conducted by Rev. C. Wayne Barnett at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 7, 2019.
Burial will follow in the Shannon Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service.
