Obituary

Maysville – Florence Lee Mefford, 104, of Maysville passed away Monday, August 8, 2022 at the Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. Mrs. Mefford was the widow of Ernest A. Mefford who passed in 1991. She retired from Traxel's Jewelry and was a member of the First Christian Church in Maysville where she served as a Deacon and Elder and was also a member of the Worthington Sunday School Class. Florence also was the head of the First Christian Church Food Bank for over eighteen years.

Family, friends and her church were the most important to her in life. She enjoyed walking, reading and quilting and had made seventeen quilts for her family and friends. She spent the last nine years living at Kenton Pointe Assisted Living and thoroughly loved and enjoyed the staff and caregivers at the facility. Florence was born in Mason County, Kentucky on May 23, 1918 the daughter of the late Sam and Mollie Elliott Rash.

She is survived by her two children, Ronald Mefford (Connie) of Louisville, KY and Shirley Akins (Larry) of Sanibel, FL; two grandchildren, Mark Mefford (Monica) and Michael Mefford (Jamie); three great grandchildren, Lily Mefford, Graham Mefford and Maxwell Mefford; four step-grandchildren, Michele Barber (Will), Joanna Thomson (Brian), Brian Akins (Becky) and Kristi Akins and nine step-great grandchildren, William Barber, Whitney Barber, Kyle Thomson, Lucy Kate Thomson, Lauren Akins, Owen Akins, Noah Akins, Rocco Akins and Micah Akins.

Florence is also survived by her special niece Sharon Ormes and her husband Jerry who always took time to care for her needs and also by two special friends, Bonnie Whalen and Linda Dearinger.

Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Rash and his wife, Inez and her sister, Glenn Werline and her husband, Howard.

Funeral services for Florence Mefford will be held at the First Christian Church in Maysville at 11:00 AM Friday, August 12, 2022 with Pastor Jeffrey Sames officiating. Entombment will follow in the Hillcrest Garden of Memories Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until the hour of the service. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Pipe Organ Fund, 18 East Third Street, Maysville, KY 41056. The arrangements are entrusted to the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home.
