Maysville – George Carl McCormick, 95, of Maysville, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. Mr. McCormick retired from Browning Manufacturing Company in 1988 after twenty two years of service.
He is a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. Carl completed his basic training in Fort Hood, Texas and went on to serve his country overseas in the 104 th Infantry Division, 3 rd Army under the direction of Major General Terry Allen. He was a graduate of the Cookeville, TN Central High School and a member of the Refinery Church of the Nazarene.
Carl was born in Cookeville, Tennessee on January 21, 1926 the second child of the late Willie and Pearl Mae Burnett McCormick. He is survived by his three daughters, Patty Shoemaker (Wes) of Independence, KY, Carla McDowell (David) of Germantown, KY and Belinda Fay of Maysville, KY; eight grandchildren, Wesley Shoemaker, Charity Shoemaker-Utz (Brad), Sean Fay (Erin), Stefanie Burns (Jason), Brian McDowell (Brianne), Chad McDowell (Marlena), Lorri Nash (John) and Morri Denham (Jay); twelve great grandchildren and two brothers, Randall McCormick (Shirley) of Cookeville, TN and Roy McCormick of Aberdeen, OH.
Besides his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his first wife of fifty-two years, Wilma Doris Ruggles McCormick and by his second wife of eight years, Edna Porter McCormick and also by his brothers, J D McCormick, Charles McCormick and Joe McCormick and his sisters, Joyce McCormick, Jean Wyrick and Bessie Mae Allen.
Funeral services for George Carl McCormick will be held at the Refinery Church of the Nazarene at 10 AM Saturday, October 2, 2021 with Pastor Lonnie Blosser officiating. Entombment will follow in the Hillcrest Garden of Memories Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Brian McDowell, Chad McDowell, Sean Fay, Wesley Shoemaker, Jason Burns and Brad Utz. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jake McDowell, Jay Denham and John Nash. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, October 1, 2021 from 5 to 7 PM. Memorials may be made to the Work and Witness Ministry for the Refinery Church of the Nazarene, 156 W. Maple Leaf Road, Maysville, KY 41056.
