Maysville - Mr. Howard S. Stewart, 88 passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Hospice of Hope Care Center in Maysville, Kentucky. Howard married Alice Smith Stewart December 14, 1948 and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Howard was born in Aberdeen, Ohio on April 3, 1935 to the late Jessie and Alice Hutchison Stewart.
A lifelong resident of Aberdeen, Howard graduated from Aberdeen Hunting High School in 1953 where he played basketball.
He was a life time member of Aberdeen Baptist Church where he accepted Christ as his Savior in 1948. He held many offices in the church including serving as a Deacon, and a Sunday School Teacher for the Junior Boys and Adult Men's Class.
He served on the Aberdeen Board of Public Affairs for 12 years and city clerk for 10 years.
Howard was a veteran of the US Air Force where he served as a Military Police Officer.
Following his service to his country, Howard was employed 34 years by the State National Bank beginning in 1962 as a teller and soon achieved the position of General Loan Officer. In 1978 Howard was promoted to Branch Manager and Vice President when he opened the State National Bank Branch on US 68. In 1983, he returned to the main bank as a loan officer where he enjoyed being able to help people with their loan needs. Howard retired in 1996.
Howard enjoyed hunting, fishing and travel. He and his wife visited all the US states except Hawaii and all of the Canadian provinces except Northwest Territory, Newfoundland and Labrador. He especially enjoyed seeing the great things God had created in the State and National Parks.
Howard was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Grandparents, M.C. and Mahala Hutchinson, who were like a second father and mother to him, and Brother in law and Sister in law Chester and Lorene Smith.
Howard is survived by his wife, daughter Melanie (Bill) Workman of Nicholasville, Ky and their children Eric (Katie) Workman of Nashville, TN, Alex (Alisha) Workman of Lexington, KY, Lauren (Luke) Woodyard of Frankfort, KY. He is also survived by his son Michael (Glenda) Stewart of Atlanta, GA and their children Rachael, Rebekah, Hannah and Zachariah Stewart all of Atlanta. He is also survived by three Great-Grandchildren, Mary Claire and Bode Workman of Nashville and Nora Workman of Lexington.
Services will be held at the Aberdeen Baptist Church at 3:00 PM Sunday, December 31, 2023 with Pastor Michael Ulrich presiding. Burial will follow in the Charter Oaks Cemetery in Aberdeen, Ohio.
Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 1:30 PM until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be Harold Shelton, Gary Morgan, Bobby Irey, Zach Stewart, Alex Workman and Eric Workman. Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of Aberdeen Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Aberdeen Baptist Church Building Fund, Food or Clothing Pantry, 733 US Rte 52 E, Aberdeen, OH 45101.
