Humphrey Martin Watson went to this Heavenly home early Tuesday Morning, December 3, 2019 at 3:00 AM shortly after celebrating his 95th birthday with family and friends at his home in Aberdeen, Ohio. Born in Elliott County, Kentucky on December 2, 1924, he was the son of Leondis and Annie Ison Watson. Humphrey served his country during World War II in the 114 th Infantry Medical Unit with the US Army. During his active duty, he was wounded in France and was awarded the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars for his service. Upon his return from the war, Humphrey married his childhood sweetheart, Beulah Saunders on June 8, 1946. They spent the majority of their married life in Southern Ohio. As the owner of Watson Plumbing and Backhoe Company, Humphrey proudly served the local area for many years until his retirement in 1989. Humphrey was a member of the Hedger Chapel Christian Church in Fleming County, a life member of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, F. & A. M. Fleming #112 Masonic Lodge and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2734. In his free time, Humphrey enjoyed all things motorcycles, spending time with family and his nightly game of cards with his bride and anyone else who would join. Humphrey leaves behind a legacy of commitment, humility, hard work and family values and countless memories of camping, riding motorcycles and working with his hands that his family will forever hold close. Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of seventy-three years, Beulah Saunders Watson; his son, Mefford Wayne Watson and his wife Jill, of Peebles, OH; three grandsons, Steven Wayne Watson (Sarah) of Dover, FL; Gregory Martin Watson (Michele) of Jensen Beach, FL, and Nicholas Ryan Watson (Elizabeth) serving in the US Air Force and stationed at Whiteman AFB in MO; one granddaughter, Courtney Elizabeth Rothwell (Jonathan) of Morton, IL; thirteen great grandchildren, Steve Watson, Porter Stanley, Alexa Watson, Mason Stanley, Rees Stanley and Stevie Watson, Jr. all of Dover, FL, Marty Watson, Shay Watson Olivia Rocco, Gianna Rocco all of Jensen Beach, FL, Jade Watson of Loveland, OH, Nic Watson, Justus Watson, Autumn Watson all of Warrensburg, MO, Courtney Rothwell, Joanna Rothwell, Jonah Rothwell all of Morton, IL; two sisters, Francis Gulley of Flemingsburg, KY and Betty Smalley of Zenia, OH and a host of loving nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Besides his parents, Humphrey was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary Ray Watson and his six brothers, Frank, Bill, Kenyon, Tom, James, George and one sister, Gladys. Funeral services for Humphrey M. Watson will be held at the Aberdeen Baptist Church at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 8, 2019 with Rev. Michael Ulrich officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Big Run Cemetery (Hedger Chapel) in Wallingford, KY. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 12:30 PM until the hour of the service.
