Johnny Rogers Donley was born June 21, 1933 and passed from this life to his eternal home on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the age of 85. For the past several months, he had been a resident of the Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Johnny was a graduate of Tollesboro High School, Class of 1952. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as Private 1 st Class in 1954 and 1955. After working at Edith Henry Shoe, he was employed for many years as a meat cutter at Clyde's Super Value on Forest Avenue in Maysville. He would greet customers with a friendly smile and quick wave of his hand. After retiring, he could be seen on his daily walks to buy a newspaper. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles, watching game shows and sports on television and keeping up with news and politics.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Lillian Donley of Tollesboro; his sister, Marjorie Jean Donley (Otis) Mason and Jeans children, Roger Mason, Jimmy Mason and Joyce Leming. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Willetha Donley (Bruce) Applegate and Willetha's children Ronnie Applegate, Fred Applegate and Judy Spradling Prather along with his three brothers, Willard Ray Donley, Herman Lee Donley and Harold Lloyd Donley.
Along with a host of friends, he is survived by his loving and caring nieces and nephews. His sister Jean's children; Carol Kesling of New Lebanon, Ohio, Bobby Mason, Billy(Arlene) Mason, Larry(Peggy) Mason and Gary(Mary) Mason all of Tollesboro. He is also survived by his sister Willetha's children; Sue (Joe) Hood and Debbie Applegate both of Ft. Myer, Florida and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Along with his family, he will be truly missed by his friends and staff at Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation, especially two special residents and friends he thought the world of, Joanne Clinger and Cora Helphenstine.
Funeral services for Johnny Donley will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 14, 2019 with Rev. David Hickerson officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Ribolt, KY. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:00 PM until the hour of the service. Condolences at knoxbrothersfuneralhome.com
