Kevin Hunter, 70
MAYSVILLE, KY – If you ever found yourself in Kevin Hunters kitchen, you'd probably be
asked to leave. But you also knew you were in for something good. Whether it was a perfect
burger, a slow-simmered chili that warmed both body and soul, or just a story told with food, he
made sure you left full.
Kevin, 70, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Meadowview Regional Medical
Center. He is survived by his wife, Linda Davis Hunter, His children—Chris Hunter
(Georgetown, KY), Granddaughter Della Ottwell (Lexington, KY), Aaron Hunter (Elisabeth,
Park Hills, KY), Joshua Hunter (Sashia, Richmond, KY), Heather Kelly (Cody, Longview,
TX)—each carry a piece of his creativity, determination, and his secret recipes—along with his
love for doing things their own way.
His son Aaron inherited his penchant for spice by starting his own hot sauce company, an
achievement that filled Kevin with immeasurable pride. His granddaughter, Della Ottwell,
acquired his love for family around a good meal. His siblings, Kerry Hunter (Becky, Greenwood,
LA), Karen Friedman (Ted, Bryant, AR), and Kala Clayton (Robert, Canyon, TX), will miss his
humor, his stubbornness, and the way he could turn even an ordinary conversation into
something memorable.
Born in Greenville, Mississippi, to the late Rufus Willard Hunter and Sally Hughes Hunter, he
spent his career in manufacturing. But his real work—the work that mattered—was with the
people he loved. Kevin never took life too seriously, as he once said after making one of his
spicier creations, and quote;
Linda said she absolutely loved this, and she told me never to do this to her again and quote; He
approached everything with that same passion, focusing on the novelty of trying something he
hadn't done before. His house is filled with projects sparked by that curiosity—some finished,
some unfinished, but all a testament to a mind that was always moving.
He was also a dedicated Shriner, once deeply involved in charity work, helping children and
communities with the same creative hands that crafted memorable meals and imaginative
projects. Some of his fondest memories were of taking his son Chris along, both dressed as
clowns to entertain children in need, bringing smiles to faces that needed them most.
Though he had been non-practicing for many years, he carried a quiet regret for losing that brotherhood and
the purpose that came with it.
Though he lived life on his own terms, he left this world with a quiet longing for more
time—more shared meals, more conversations, and more opportunities to reconnect with the
family he had grown distant from, even as he remained deeply connected to his wife and sons.
A private family service will be held through Knox and Brothers Funeral Home. In lieu of
flowers, consider honoring Kevin by picking up an old project, learning something new, or
lending a hand to someone who needs it. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane
Society of Buffalo Trace, PO Box 758, Maysville, KY 41056.
