Mary Kathryn
Turner
Feb 23, 1935 — Dec 19, 2021
Cincinnati
Mary Kathryn Turner passed away on December 19, 2021, at her home in Cincinnati, Ohio.
She was born February 23, 1935 to the late John Herman and Anna Belle (Warner) Turner. She was autistic and very much aware of the world around her. She attended school briefly in her youth with her late sister Mayme and later attended vocational rehabilitation schools. She learned to partially spell her name and count to a limited number. Her memory was exceptional when it came to memorizing names of our friends and neighbors and all their children. She remembered people and events from decades ago that all other family members had forgotten.
She enjoyed travelling on family vacations, visiting relatives, dining out (her favorite was the old
Revolving Restaurant in Covington, Kentucky). She loved the Longhorn Restaurant, Red Lobster, and
was crazy about McDonalds cheeseburgers (always two) and hot dogs. At restaurants she was impatient for the entrée. When served a salad, she wanted to know where the ribs were. She loved the number two and wanted two of everything from jeans to radios and watches.
She loved riding anywhere and everywhere, watching the police, playing records, singing, dancing to Ray Charles, Brook Benton, and Aretha Franklin, and playing the piano. She loved watching Jerry Springer,
Dr. Phil ("he got them together, didn't he?"), and Martha Stewart ("Martha Stewart got Mayme beat (in cooking) didn't she?"). Of course Mayme was a wonderful cook and she had never tasted Martha Stewart's cooking. She also loved going to the doctor ("no needles please") and cursing occasionally,
sometimes in a foreign language she knew we wouldn't understand. She would ask ten questions in
rapid succession before weI had the chance to answer one.
She loved her brothers and repeated daily what city they lived in and what cars they drove. She knew where she grew up, all the neighbors and their kids, and whether they were living or dead.
She loved her karaoke and fixing things that weren't broken. She loved Santa Clause and teddy bears
and good home cooking. In short, she loved life and lived it to the fullest. She knew she was loved by
family and all who truly knew her. She was truly a blessing and leaves a great void in our lives, but God needed her more. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her brothers Edward Eugene and Leslie Hunter (Taffy) of Dayton, Ohio, and sisters Ruth Ann and Julia Mae of Cincinnati, Ohio, several nephews, nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
