Rena Owens May, 91, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Ohio Valley Manor in
Ripley, Ohio. Mrs. May was the widow of Alton Boswell May Jr. whom passed in 1968. Rena
was born in Mason County, Kentucky on December 8, 1932, the daughter of Robert Pierce
Owens and Carrie Reeves Owens Bussell. She grew up in Bracken County, Kentucky and after
graduating from Bracken County High School, moved to and worked in Cincinnati where she
met and married Mr. May. The couple moved to Los Angeles where Rena worked for IBM for
thirty seven years. Rena resided in Los Angeles until the last four years of her life.
Survivors include her sister, Juanita Owens Duvall of Frankfort, Kentucky. In addition to
Juanita's surviving children, Shelby Duvall of Frankfort and Barbara Duvall Allen of Ft. Worth,
Texas, Rena was blessed with several beloved nieces and nephews, including two nieces
originally from Fleming County, Debra June Owens and Karen Owens Adams. The many out of
state surviving nieces and nephews include the following: Leland Owens, Lisa Owens Trinkle,
Lora Owens Smith, Mark Owens, Ross Owens, and Jack Owens III. Other surviving local
family members are cousins Polly Haggard of Mason County, Kentucky and Penny Pinkard
Purcell of Fleming County, Kentucky, and cousin Susan Pinkard of Texas.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by the following siblings:
Dorothy Ann Owens, Harlan Owens, Jack Owens, Ralph Owens, and Virginia Owens Beckett.
Preceding Rena's death were several beloved nephews: Don Duvall, Edward Owens, Jack
Owens II, and Mike Owens.
Following the instructions and wishes of Mrs. May, no services will be held and a private burial
of cremains will be held at the Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Arrangements are entrusted to Knox and Brothers Funeral Home in Maysville, Kentucky.
