Aberdeen- Richard Eugene "Dick" Allen, 82, of Aberdeen, Ohio passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at The Ohio Veterans Home in Georgetown, Ohio. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Maysville, KY; a member of the American Legion in Ripley, Ohio; a past member of the I.O.O.F. #27 Ringgold Lodge and a graduate of Manchester High School. Richard was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, upon his discharge, he served in the US Army Reserves and the US National Guard. After his military service, Mr. Allen began his civilian work career at Favorite Bakery in Manchester, Ohio for thirteen years. He then purchased and became the owner of two Ashland Oil distributorships located in West Union and Ripley Ohio. He and his wife are well-known for their ownership and operations of the Allen's Swimming Pool in West Union, Ohio.
Richard was born in Manchester, Ohio on October 20, 1936 the son of the late Chester Kermit Allen and Jean Thompson Allen. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Mason Allen; his daughter, Kelly Allen Ward (Russell) of Morehead, KY; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ward Reynolds (Justin) of Morehead, KY, Erin Ward of Newport, KY, and Sarah Ward, of Morehead, KY; one great grandchild, Ellison Thomas Richard Reynolds; one sister, Billie Sue Crawford of West Union, OH; brother-in-law, Randy Mason (Diana) of Aberdeen, OH; sister-in-law, Shirley White (Doug) of Manchester, OH; nieces: Joy Riley, Becky Kirker and Jenny Higgins; nephews: Rick Crawford, Stephen White, Daniel Mason, Ryan Mason and Eric Mason and his faithful dog, Charlie. He is also survived by his dear and special friend, Donnie Gifford. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Wayne Crawford and his nephew, Mike Riley, and dear friend, Robert Shelton.
A Celebration of Life Service for Richard Allen will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 16, 2018 at the Central Baptist Church in Maysville, KY with Richard's great nephew, Pastor Dean Kirker officiating. Burial will follow in the Maysville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rick Crawford, Bryon Kirker, Jarod Riley, Jesse Riley, Stephen White, Daniel Mason, Ryan Mason and Eric Mason. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donnie Gifford, R V Blankenbickler, Gary Himes, Greg Darnell, Ed Rosser, David Eitel (in memory of Erman Eitel), Mike Farris, Jackie Allison, Jimmy Rawlings, Dwayne Stamper and Rob Stevens. Visitation will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 5 to 8 PM.
