Obituary

Russell Highley, 91, of Mt. Sterling, KY died Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the Edgewood Estates in Frenchburg, KY. Mr. Highley was the widower of Betty Ferrell Highley who died October 24, 2007. The couple married on May 11, 1950.  Mr. Highley joined with his father and worked at the McCormick Lumber Company and later, he and his son, Tommy, started their own business and begin to renovate and build homes in the Mt. Sterling area. Russell was a well-known finishing carpenter and he was a devoted member of the Somerset Christian Church where he served as an Elder, a Deacon and on many of the church committees for numerous years. Russell was born in Mt. Sterling on September 19, 1928 the son of the late Russell and Eliza Ann Pergram Highley. Survivors include his son, Thomas A. Highley and his wife, Elaine of Mt. Sterling, KY; his daughter Vicki H. Brothers of Maysville, KY; grandchildren, Russell Pendleton, Jacob Pendleton, Brian Highley and Justin Highley; great grandchildren, Jackson Pendleton, Mason Pendleton, William Christopher Pendleton and Robert Warren Pendleton. Besides his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Robert G. Brothers; his brothers, Bradley Highley and Bud Highley and his sisters, Florine Cooper and Cora Warren. Funeral services for Russell Highley will be held at the Somerset Christian Church at 6:30 PM Tuesday, January 7, 2020 with visitation at the church on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until the hour of the service. Rev. Glen Emery will officiate the services. Committal services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the Macpelah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Somerset Christian Church, 3172 Old Maysville Road, Mt.
