Obituary

Maysville - Russell Robinson, beloved father, father-in-law,  brother, grandad, great dad, uncle, cousin, and friend entered his heavenly home at the Hospice Care Center after 99 years, 9 months and 16 days on this earth. Russell, also known as Robby, was a resident at Kenton Pointe Assistant Living facility in Maysville for almost 11 years and loved the staff, friends and family that he made there.  He was an avid fisherman, carpenter, UK basketball fan and loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, mind and strength.

Russell was born May 15, 1924 to the late Charles and Nannie Rigdon Robinson in Happy Hollow Lewis County.  He was one of 7 children, Hester (Walter) Cropper, Rose (Frank) Newsome, Howard (Wanda) Robinson, Jim (Norma) Robinson, Alice (Ralph) Crum, Minnie (Paul) Cole.  He graduated from Tollesboro High School.  He married Meredith Newsome and was then called into service of the US Army receiving his training at Fort Knox. He served in Casablanca as a mail carrier then near Frankfurt Germany as a truck driver before ending his military career driving a Colonel during the Nuremberg Trials.

Russell returned home to his wife and was blessed with two children, Connie and Larry while working at Wald Manufacturing.  After 13 1/2 years of marriage Meredith died of cancer leaving Russell with two small children.  He began his career at Browning Manufacturing where he later met and married Helen McRoberts and was blessed with two more children, Judy and Mary. After 34 years of marriage he lost his second wife to cancer.

He faithfully served his Lord at Central Baptist Church serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and director, Baptist Men's leader and many other jobs.  He used his carpentry skills to help remodel the church basement on two separate occasions and proudly served on the building committee, helping supervise the construction of the fellowship hall.  He loved serving others and was able to be a witness while serving in KY Changers and KY Disaster Relief.

He is survived by his four children, Connie (Wesley) Shemwell of Madison WI, Larry (Michelle) Robinson of Raymore, MO, Judy (Jim) Gallenstein and Mary (Derek) Griffey, both of Maysville, eight grandchildren, Sarah (Steve) Pyle, Zachary (Christi) Gallenstein, Drew (Kelsey) Robinson, Megan Gallenstein, Russ (Robin Crail) Middleton, Robyn Shemwell, Erienne (Devan) Doty, and Caitlin Courtner.   He was blessed with 11 great grandchildren, Mason, Beckett, Quinnlyn Pyle, Brendon and Jordyn Gallenstein, Miles and Nora Robinson, James and Delaney Doty, Finley Gallenstein and Reign Middleton.   Two siblings, Alice Crum and Minnie Cole, sister-in-law, Wanda Robinson and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him.
