Sanford Roff Parker, 99, formerly of May's Lick, Kentucky died peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025 at Rosedale Green Nursing Home in Covington, Kentucky.
Mr. Parker was the widower of Anne Orem Parker who passed in 2002. The couple married in 1949 and were married fifty-three years. He re-married in 2005. He was married to Lida "Boo" Crockett for 11 years before her death in 2016.
Mr. Parker was a direct descendent of the original founders of May's Lick, Kentucky who arrived in Mason County in 1788. He volunteered to serve his country in the US Army in the second world war.
After graduating from Kentucky Military Institute in 1943 he went to Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston and then joined the Army Reserve Program at the University of Kentucky. He was a member of the 87th Division of the US Army. He then got an appointment to West Point in 1945. As the war was winding down, he transferred to the University of Cincinnati where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business. He returned to May's Lick and was a proud farmer until his retirement.
He was the President of the Bank of May's Lick, the third member of his family to hold the position. He also served on the board of the Kentucky Humanities Council, a charter member of the May's Lick Lion's Club in 1959, a member of the Mason County Water District and the Mason County Soil Conservation District. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a designated Mason County Pioneer. He volunteered with the Maysville Players. He developed a love of traveling as he supported Anne Parker in the Parker Travel Agency in Maysville.
Sanford, often called "Sandy", was an owner of the Grower's Warehouse and, later, the Banner Warehouse in Maysville. He was a member and Vice President of the Maysville Tobacco Board of Trade.
He was born in Maysville, Kentucky on August 20, 1925, the son of the late Preston Piper Parker and Mary Roff Parker. He was one of the first children born in Hayswood Hospital and received a US Savings bond as a result. He was a lifelong member of the May's Lick Christian Church.
Survivors include his five children and two step-sons. Sallie Parker Lotz (Robert) and their children Robert Parker Lotz, Daniel Preston Lotz and Charles Piper Lotz; William Preston "Kip" Parker (Patricia) and son Frank and step-daughter Emily Pingel; Mary Margaret "Peggy" Parker (Joel Segal) and sons Simon Parker Segal and Jack Sanford Segal; James Orem Parker (Cindy) and children David Roff Parker and Mary Elizabeth Parker; and Ellen Parker Smith (Clay) and their daughter Piper Smith Beal and son, Clayton Parker Smith; step-sons Henry (Susan) Snyder and their son, Henry; and Ralph Case (Karen)) and son Wesley. There are seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Sanford Parker will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 with Rev. C. Wayne Barnett officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service.
Burial will follow in the May's Lick Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mary Elizabeth Parker, Piper Smith Beal, David Roff Parker, James Franklin Parker, Robert Parker Lotz, Daniel Preston Lotz, Emily Pingel, Jack Sanford Segal, Henry Snyder and Austin Matheny. Honorary pallbearers will be Janet Downing White, Chip Snyder, Mary Anna Best, Holton Cartmell, Ted Colvin and Theresa Hillenmeyer Mattei.
