Sharon Gayle Legge Newell, 76, of Maysville, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023. Sharon was born in Maysville, Kentucky on November 22, 1946, the daughter of the late Clarence Albert Legge and Nellie Mae Frances Bocock Legge.
She was a member of First Christian Church where she formerly served as a Deacon and the Christian Education Chair, and was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a 1964 graduate of Mason County High School and attended the University of Kentucky and Morehead State University. Sharon worked for many years in Walmart's fabric department.
She served as President of the Friendship Club of the Mason County Extension Homemakers and was actively involved in the Homemakers' Book Club and Quilt Clubs. The annual Homemaker Bazaar always featured crafts and baked goods that Sharon made to raise money for the Scholarship Fund. She founded the Creative Clovers 4-H club in which her children actively participated for many years, and was a State Winner of the Conrad Feltner Leadership Award.
Sharon is survived by her two children, Michael Newell (Mary Dawn) of Maysville, KY, and Melissa Newell-Smith of Louisville, KY; two grandchildren, Ezekiel Smith of Columbus, OH and Luke Smith of San Francisco, CA; four siblings, Lorrie Clos (Stephen) of Wake Forest, NC, Glenn Legge (Nancy) of Melbourne, FL, Clarence "Buzz" Legge (Sherry) of Hendersonville, TN and Keith Legge of Versailles, KY, as well as her sister-in-law, Alice Galbraith Legge, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary Legge and James Legge.
Funeral services for Sharon Newell will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home at 1:00 PM Thursday, March 16, 2023 with Rev. C. Wayne Barnett officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Garden of Memories. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from noon until the hour of the service.
