Obituary

Shirley Ann McVey, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Shirley was born in Bath County, Kentucky on August 8, 1942 to the late William and Rosa Mae (Smoot) Sutton. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend whose warmth, kindness, and love touched the lives of many.

Shirley was an avid UK basketball and Cincinnati Red’s fan. She enjoyed playing cards, especially spades and euchre, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She took great joy in cooking for her family and enjoyed talking with and spending time with her close friends, Rosie Tumey, Doris Jones, Betty Owens and Nancy Price. Shirley was a lifelong member of the Grace Baptist Church. She loved her pastors Larry Manning, the late Earl Clay Saunders and her whole church family. Shirley also loved tending to her flower garden and being at her little house in Lewisburg.

She is survived by her children, Tommy (Judy) McVey, Patty (Keith) Stitt, Jeff McVey, Missy (Chuck) Thomas, Barry (Dana) McVey, and Mary (Mark) Hamilton.

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Bradley Stitt, Alysha (Ryan) Norris, Chris (Lexie) Thomas, Shaina (Josh) Kielman, Dylan Hamilton (Madison Kelsch), and Taylor (Jacob) Reed; and her precious great-grandchildren, Madalyn Stitt, Reed Davenport, Ruston Norris, Kyleigh Kielman, Klayton Kielman, Korbin Kielman, Carlee Reed and Khloe Reed.

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Owen McVey; her sisters, Janet Willoughby, Betty Jo Sutton, Mae Adams, Thelma Whitt, and Wilma Sutton; her brothers, Richard, William, and Ernest Sutton; and her precious grandson, Brian Keith Stitt.

Although her passing leaves a deep emptiness in the hearts of those who loved her, Shirley’s memory will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many lives she touched. She will be remembered for her loving heart, gentle spirit, love of family, and the special place she held in the hearts of her loved ones. Her love will continue through the generations, and she will be missed more than words can express.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Hospice of Hope Care Team for the compassion, comfort, and loving care they gave Shirley and her family during her final days. Their kindness and support will always be remembered. A special Thanks to Robbin, Becky & Christine.
