Steven N.
Curtis
Aug 22, 1959 — Dec 25, 2024
Maysville
Steven Noel Curtis, 65, of Maysville, KY, died on December 25, 2024. Steve, son of Anita Curtis and the
late Leslie B. Curtis, was surrounded by family as he took his last precious breath. Steve was a loving
brother, son and uncle, and often known for his beautiful smile. As an avid athlete in his younger years,
Steve had the love of all sports but excelled in summer league ball; all that knew him saw his agile ability
to catch flying balls, sliding into home to score the run, the desire to play ball, and his competitive side:
win, win, win.
Steve won at life and won the hearts of all that he met. While Steve suffered paralysis in 1983, he was
never paralyzed in his love and spirit for his family, the Cincinnati Reds, and Kentucky basketball.
Additionally, Steve faithfully followed the Lady Royals and Mason County Men's basketball programs; he
was instrumental in the Lady Royals intramural basketball in the early 2000's and was recently inducted
into the 10th Region Girls Basketball Hall of Fame. Steve always believed in every person's ability to play
the game, improve, and contribute.
Before his accident, Steve enjoyed a prosperous and committed professional job at Kroger's. He enjoyed
his work and was driven to do a good job. Just like coaching, he wanted to give it his all. He proved this
in his time working there. Additionally, Steve was proud of his commitment to his sobriety and
overcoming addiction. While he always said, "I'm never perfect", his loved ones knew of his courage and
straight talk in what he needed to do.
Steve's love of people was matched by his late father's love of people. He was always that listening ear,
debater of the family, but also a connoisseur of great eats, prepared by his loving mother, Anita. He
loved being an uncle to his nephews and nieces and their love for him was endless. Steve will be greatly
missed by all who loved him most.
Steve is survived by his mother, Anita Curtis; siblings, Dr. Leslie Stewart Curtis, Cleveland, Ohio and Dr.
Linda Koch; Jill Scaggs, married to Jim Scaggs of Maysville, Kentucky; Gail Tuttle, married to Michael
Tuttle, of High Point, North Carolina; Chris Curtis, married to Gloria, of Aurora, Colorado. Jim and Jill
provided exceptional support and care for Steve; he was continuously grateful for their assistance.
Steve cherished his mother's love and support and she will miss him immensely. Several surviving
nieces and nephews that Steve adored and served as their biggest advocate and cheerleader; he never
missed a birthday or Christmas gifting.
Funeral services for Steve Curtis will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home at 12:00 PM Monday, December 30, 2024 with Rev. Mark Wilson officiating and assisted by Rev. Charlie Shoemaker and Rev. David Combs. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, December 29, 2024 from 6 to 8 PM. Burial will be in the Maysville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Mathis, Mark Kachler, Anthony Lewis, Billy Reeder, Brian Littleton and Mark Emmons. James "Skippy" Dodge will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer.
To honor his love of sport, please wear Cincinnati Reds, UK Wildcats, Lady Royals and/or Mason County Royals gear for both visitation and services. As his favorite song, "Free Bird" states, "Cause I'm as free as a bird now". Fly high and rest eternally in peace.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mason County High School c/o Lady Royals basketball
program or c/o Mason County High School tennis team, 1320 US Highway 68, Maysville, KY 41056. Condolences at knoxbrothersfuneralhome.com
