Obituary

Maysville – Velma Louise Jackson, 93, of Maysville, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She is the widow of John O. Jackson who passed in 2012. Velma was a graduate of Orangeburg High School and formerly worked at Reliable Shoe Store and was a community volunteer. She was a sixty four year member of the Central Baptist Church. Velma was born in Maysville, Kentucky on August 19, 1932 the daughter of the late Estill and Dessie Fossitt Applegate.

She is survived by her three children, John A. Jackson (Sara), Deborah J. Sauer and Rebecca J. Todd (Joey) all of Maysville; five grandchildren, John Martin Jackson (Leslie), Kasey Jackson Rice (TC), Mollie Todd Tso (Alex), Owen Todd (Ashley) and Joel Todd (Heather Conn); one step granddaughter, Shawna Sauer Martin (Gary Moore); five great grandchildren, Hayden Jackson, Reid Jackson, Ty Jackson, Kinsley Rice and Chase Rice; two step great grandchildren, Jeffrey Martin (Ashton) and Bradley Martin and four step great-great grandchildren, Harper Martin, Morgan Martin, Isaac Martin and Riley Martin and one brother, Arvid Applegate of Nicholasville, KY.

Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, William Sauer, step grandson, Chad Sauer, her sister, Eskalene DeVore and her sister-in-law, Barbara Hook Applegate.

Funeral services for Velma Jackson will be held at the Central Baptist Church at 1:00 PM Thursday, September 25, 2025 with Rev. Adam Burton                    officiating. Burial will follow in the Maysville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Martin Jackson, Owen Todd, Joel Todd, TC Rice, Alex Tso, Hayden Jackson, Jeffrey Martin and Grant Noffsinger. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Fossitt, Larry Fossitt, Mike Jackson, Rodney Tolle, Brent Tolle, Joey Jackson, Andy Applegate and Steve Fitch.

Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service. Memorials may be made to Kentucky Talking Book Library, PO Box 537, Frankfort, KY 40602 or Central Baptist Church, 437 Central Avenue, Maysville, KY 41056 or to Hospice of Hope, 909 Kenton Station Drive, Maysville, KY 41056.
