History

Robert G. Knox—the founder of what is now Knox and Brothers Funeral Home—originally came to Maysville in 1910.

Opened in 1910 and Moved in 1949

Here, he became a partner at what was originally known as McLlvain, Knox and Humphrey Funeral Home. Robert had come from West Liberty, where he was a partner at A.T. Brock Funeral Home. After Robert’s death in 1933, his son, Albert, became a partner in the business with his mother.

In 1949, the business moved to our current location at 625 East Second Street and changed its name to Knox Funeral Home.

Trusted Funeral Provider

In January 1980, Albert Knox, his son, Billy Joe, and Robert Brothers merged the Knox Funeral Home and the Brothers Funeral Home to form the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home. Robert Brothers became the sole owner of the firm in 1983 after the deaths of Albert Knox and his son, Billy Joe. In 1997, the firm was purchased by Keystone Group Holdings, and later in 2009 it was purchased by Service Corporation International.

David E. Lawrence, a twenty-one-year associate of Knox and Brothers Funeral Home, purchased the firm in April of 2018.

The Knox and Brothers Funeral Home has been dedicated to providing care and attention to each family we serve for nearly 108 years. We continually strive to stay on the leading edge of professional service, and our personal commitment to being involved remains firm. Our firm seeks to maintain the highest standards in the funeral profession, and our goal is to serve everyone beyond expectation.
